Details:
Dottie's husband told police that Dottie had planned to travel to visit a friend and that he had dropped her off at the Pleasant Hill BART station on the morning of June 12, 1985. In a statement to police, he said that he later found her 1963 light-blue Volkswagen parked at the Concord BART station. Her purse with her ID and money had been left on the seat. After putting her purse under the seat and leaving a note asking her to call him, he locked the car and left it there. The car was still there the next day so he decided to move it to a different spot to keep her from getting a ticket. Later he drove to his parents' Central Valley home in Lindsay to leave the couple's dog with them. The husband later changed his story, saying he never drove her to the Pleasant Hill station, and that she must have driven herself there.
Family and friends say that Dorothy was being abused by her husband. She joined a support group for battered women in early 1985 and was attempting to regain her self-confidence, and reportedly planned to divorce him. She had recently opened her own bank account depositing a $5000.00 inheritance. The money remained untouched after her disappearance.
Dorothy's husband didn't report her as a missing person until June 17, five days after her disappearance. He denies that there were any problems in their relationship, and stated that Dorothy had mental health issues.
