Details:
Mario Hernandez a retired jewelry broker told his caregiver that he would return before lunch
from an appointment when he left the Town and Country Village mobile home park where he
resided. He never returned. A week later, Mario's van was found doused in gasoline which led
authorities to believe he had met with foul play.
Rebeca Diaz-Nivarez was arrested and recently convicted of first degree murder and robbery
in the disappearance of Mario although his body has never been found. Detectives found out
that Diaz-Nivarez was pawning dozens of items of jewelry at several pawn shops in Santa
Ana and became suspicious after learning she was Hernandez last appointment.
Ricardo Dagoberto Diaz-Nivarez, 22, the woman's son, is also charged with murder and
awaiting trial in connection to the case.
