Michaela Joy Garecht
Description at time of Disappearance:
Date Missing: November 19, 1988 from Hayward, Alameda County, California.
Date of Birth: January 24, 1979
Age at Disappearance: 9
Weight: 75 lbs.
Race/Sex: White, Female
Michaela was last seen wearing a white t-shirt with the word "Metro" and images of people, denim pants,
rolled above her knees, nylon stockings, white anklet socks, and black shoes. She had on earrings that are
three-inch-long, pearl or white-colored, and resemble feathers. Michaela has prominent ears, and her teeth
are slightly mottled.
Michaela was abducted by an unidentified male in the parking lot of Rainbow Market, two blocks from her
home. A friend she was with had her scooter moved, and when Michaela tried to get it back, the abductor
threw Michaela into his car and sped off. Michaela's friend ran inside the Rainbow Market for assistance,
but the abductor was able to escape with Michaela before she could get help.
The abductor was described as between 18 -24 years old with an acne scarred face. He was wearing a
white t-shirt and had longish, dirty, blonde hair, and a slender build. He was driving a large, older model,
American-made sedan. It was possibly a four-door vehicle and was cream, gold, or tan in color.
The car appeared to be run-down, the front bumper was battered and looked to have been involved in an
accident. The tail lights were set into the rear bumper. There appeared to be cement splatters along the
sides of the vehicle. It was last seen speeding south on Mission Boulevard towards Union City, California,
with Michaela inside.
